Educational farms offer a unique opportunity to learn more about the environment, its culture and products and they do so by letting you experience with your hands their activity. Farms offer different tools to raise awareness of various environmental aspects: social, economical, technical, political and cultural ones.

fattorie didattiche Educational farms perfectly match local cultural policies with innovative educational activities carried out at school.

Quality land education is very important and must be carried out at a local level. Farms are the perfect place where kids can learn, experience and improve their "knowledge" of the environment. Activities organized at the farm allow children to learn at different levels, combining different educational goals. Each activity is specifically planned and it's outcome depends on the integration with other actions.

At the farm you can also learn about the importance of words and silence. Kids learn that beauty and hard work are closely connected, as the sun and the flavour of fresh fruits, the gestures and the answers provided by farmers. As a result kids understand the link between attention and learning, commitment and knowledge.

Planning and managing school trips

School trips at the farm must be based on specific educational goals, decided together by teachers and farmers.

Before the visit

Choosing the educational farm
Each farm suggest learning activities and laboratories according the its features, skills and field of production.

Booking the visit
Classes or groups must book the visit directly with the farm, agreeing on date, time, activities and costs. We suggest to chose 2 or 3 learning programmes depending on the length of the visit. Bookings must be confirmed via fax or email.

Reporting problems
Liaise with teachers to make sure if there are children suffering from food allergies, intolerances or other particular problems (hay, oat grass, pollen, gluten, dairy products, etc..) in order to prevent any risk.

Costs
The cost of school trips and educational activities depends on the type of activity/laboratory you select, the number of visitors, the length and type of visit you want to do.

Transports
Transport and organization costs are normally paid by the school. Some public bodies assign schools an economic contribution to cover transport costs.

Period

School trips can be planned throughout the whole year. Learning programmes will change according to the season. In case of bad weather, activities will be carried out indoor.

School trips only in spring ? 4 good reasons to plan a trip at the educational farm in autumn

  1. Beginning the school year with out-of-school activities is the best way to socialize and learn new things.
  2. Discover once again the cycle of simple, typical foods: from the olive tree to the olive oil; from the seed to the wheat.
  3. Experiencing life in the countryside in one of the most amazing seasons will help you develop seasonality as a topic to study throughout the year.
  4. Make the most out of this experience to allow a better continuity of education

Hospitality

At the farm you can eat your packed lunch indoor or outdoor. Many farms provide, with advance reservations, lunch, dinners and snacks made with the farms' products. In some farms you can also book a holiday package.

Clothing and tools
Visitors should wear comfortable clothes and shoes; appropriate for the season and for outdoor activities. They should have a change of shoes, a hat, a bottle or flask of water, a snack and/or a packed lunch (unless they booked a packed lunch at the farm)

At the end of the visit

Evaluating the experience
Teachers are asked to fill in an evaluation sheet of the experience at the farm and to send it to the local authority in charge of carrying out controls.
