Educational Farms in Italy

2The experience of Educational Farms in Italy has developed over the last 5-6 years.

The first activities of Educational Farms in Italy were presented in 1997 by Alimos at the Agriscuola Meeting, together with the European Federation of City Farms.

Apart from the network created by Alimos, over the last 10 years, similar experiences were promoted in the Piedmont Region by the Consorzio Agriturismo Piemonte, in Lombardy by the Consorzio Agrituristico Mantovano and, finally, by the Emilia-Romagna Region, which created in 1999 a network of educational farms covering all the region’s provinces.

Today there are more than 2.000 farms and they are likely to increase in number as they offer the best solution for schools looking for alterative education. In fact, farms are the perfect place where kids can learn, experience and improve their “knowledge” of the environment.
